Doctor Who: Titan Comics Eleventh Doctor Issue One Review

Well, that's a mouthful of a title, innit? I honestly didn't know what else to name it if I'm perfectly honest,

heh...Well, anyway, some of you may know I'm a fan of the Eleventh Doctor and seeing as how Eleven is my favorite (and I'm still not over the episode that shall not be named/aka the Christmas special), I got really excited today when me and my Dad found issue one for Titan Comics' Doctor Who run in our local comic store (well, I say local). Luckily, we were able to get it. So, I'm reviewing the first issue! Which you could probably guess from the title of this post. Onwards!

Synopsis:
After a long month of nothing buy misery for Alice Obiefune, she stumbles into a whole different world full of adventure and excitement when she runs into a strange man in a tweed jacket and bow-tie, who is currently trying to find an alien rainbow dog which is loose on the streets of London. Can the two of them work out how to stop the alien?

Review:
Admittedly, I wasn't sure how well the new comics would be. The only DW comics I ever read came from IDW, so I didn't know if the new ones would be just as good. Turns out, they were! While to some, the story in this one (particularly the alien) might've seemed silly, but silly works with Doctor Who, especially when the Doctor in question is Eleven. The character Alice is interesting, and I'm curious to see how her story will continue and there also seems to be a mystery about in these comics, so that's even more curious. There's not much negative about this comic, though the art could have been better at times (particularly in the case of the artwork for the Doctor) but beyond that the story was really good. Also, the cover that went with the one I got was absolutely gorgeous (so much blue, and beautiful background pictures) that the picture above just did not capture. I like that there are little comics strips at the end of the comic, so once you're done with one comic, you've got extra to read! I'm really curious to see if this will continue. Will I continue to collect these? Duh! I really want to see where the Doc takes Alice for her first adventure in the TARDIS!

Agents of SHIELD: In Comic Form

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., the television show based on the Marvel Cinematic Universe, has had it's comic-book ties before, quite literally. For the last few episodes of last season, several different comic book artists did posters for each episode, and before hand, variant editions of several different comic series had pictures of the cast on it. But this particular incident is much different; this is a full comic revolving around the Bus Gang....
but it's only available online (or it will be eventually). It was first available by Lexus (for the complete comic), but will be sold in print at Comic-Con. You can find the Marvel page for it here, where you can read a sample of the comic. The comic apparently takes place between 'Seeds' and the episode after that.

Breaking News: Marvel, Who, Trailers, Oh My!

Alright, so there's a lot of news today. A ton, most of which are very exciting. And I must say, one of them had me bouncing around my room/house with joy. First off, let's start off with the most recent Guardians of the Galaxy UK trailer, which features basically an entire trailer filled with new footage. It might contain some spoilers, just so yall know.



Little Mini Review for the trailer: Okay. Awesome. At first I was kind of 'eh, looks alright' about the movie, but the more I watched the first trailer, the more excited I got. The second trailer was awesome, but this one? Oh my goodness, this looks downright marvelous, hilarious, fun, action packed....is it August yet?

The second bit of news is this:

After the news that Titan Comics would be coming out with brand new comic-book series featuring both the Tenth and Eleventh Doctor with brand new companions (you can see the trailers for these here and here), I was beginning to wonder if they'd make one with the Twelfth Doctor (actually, come to think of it, I mentioned it to my Mom last night), and this morning, I find that they are going to do a comic series featuring Twelve and Clara. The Twelfth Doctor comics are set to be released on October 1st, while the Eleventh and Tenth Doctor comics are set to be released July 23rd. I must say, I'm glad to see those two back in comics, and I'm really looking forward to seeing Twelve in comic form.

The last bit of news is this: the current Spider-Man cartoon series, Ultimate Spider-Man is set to return on August 31st, and will supposedly be renamed Marvel's Ultimate Spider-Man: Web Warriors. The promotional image featured many different versions of Spider-Man, (most of which I didn't actually recognize), and also included Spoilers Ahead Spider-Girl on the image, which is the bit of news that had me bouncing up and down around the house. Ahem. But seriously, how cool is that (so long as they get her right)? May and Peter on the same show? Yowzah!

Black Widow and the Marvel Girls: Series Review

Hello! I'm back, after an extremely long hiatus. I apologize for that, I haven't found anything to review (no new movies, tv shows, and hardly any new books), so it's been a bit slow on Tegan's Library (I say slow, more like nonexistent). Anyway, I back today (actually, this was supposed to be up yesterday) with a new review! And this one is about another one of my favorite comic book series, one that I've only recently finished collecting (back in March at MegaCon). And that series is Black Widow and the Marvel Girls.
 How did I come across this comic series? Well....I'm not sure how, but sometime last year, I think, I ended up on it's page on the Marvel website, and I was interested. I mean, a comic with Black Widow and Wasp? Titled Black Widow and the Marvel Girls? I was hooked!
 It took a while to actually remember to look for it at the comic store, though (if I remember correctly), but I quickly found the first two issues, and later the third, then finally the fourth (it was a mini-series). So, onto the review!

Synopsis:
In the four-part miniseries titled Black Widow and the Marvel Girls, Natasha Romanoff (otherwise known as the Black Widow) teams up with the super heroines, and sometimes villains, of the Marvel verse, teaming up with the Wasp and Storm, among others.

Issue One:
Issue one introduces us to Natasha Romanoff, who is currently on a mission for...well, I guess SHIELD, I don't think it ever actually mentioned who she was working for. Natasha uses her wits a lot in this issue, and outsmarts the baddies more than once, and we get some insight on her past. It's a pretty good first issue in my mind, and it's really enjoyable.

Issue Two:
Natasha is joined with the Avengers in this issue, all of whom are having a hard time trusting her. Fate ends up having Natasha and Janet Van Dyne, otherwise known as the Wasp, team up in order to survive. This is by far my favorite issue of all of the series.

Issue Three:
Natasha is seen working for SHIELD, and is attempting to track down a brand new superhero on the team, per orders of Nick Fury. But when they discover a threat from the past, things get more interesting. While this issue is not as enjoyable as the previous one, it's still a wonderful story.

Issue Four:
The final issue features Natasha teaming up with Storm and an unlikely, uneasy ally. This one I'll admit is my least favorite of the whole series, but I can't really describe why. It's still a great comic, with some great moments (and I love, love, love one of Natasha's outfits in it), it's just not as great as the rest in my opinion.

Beyond that, I'm not quite sure, as it's been slow on the news front, and the TV show front. I might even start reviewing some of the Deep Space Nine episodes I've been watching with my Dad. Who knows?

Spider-Girl: The Series Review

Note: Review is Slightly Bias-This is my favorite series
Alright, I'm cheating a little. Yes, I've done reviews on Spider-Girl in the past, but this time I'm doing a review on Spider-Girl, the first-and longest-title to run with May 'Mayday' Parker in the lead. The other series with May in the lead would be The Amazing Spider-Girl, The Spectacular Spider-Girl (there were two series with that name-an online series and a four part miniseries), and the final issue Spider Girl: The End. 
 Now, who exactly is May Parker? I'll give you a little run down if you don't know who she is. Firstly, though, I want to clear something up. This series is set in the MC2 universe. It was based off a one-shot by What If? which featured the young web-spinner discovering her father's secret past as the costumed adventurer Spidey, and that she had inherited his abilities. Because fans demanded it, May was given her own series, and that series-Spider-Girl-ran for 100 issues (excluding the 1999 annual they did, and a one-off that featured May, Wild Thing, and Franklin Richards), before it ended. Anyway, the question I was going to answer: May Parker. May is the daughter of Peter Parker and Mary Jane Parker (former Watson), and is later the older sister to a younger brother named Ben Parker. Why did May become a web-head? Responsibility. Not because she lost someone. No. She has learned from her father's mistakes, and May will do what's right simply because it's right, and often judges herself when she is unable to save someone.
       Spider-Girl is the second comic-book series I'd ever started to collect, but was the first that I seriously began to collect. I've been a fan of Spider-Girl for....well, quite a number of years. I saw a comic book with Mary Jane and a girl in a Spider-Man costume on it, with the title The Amazing Spider-Girl (it was issue 8). That was my first issue-and is now in a state of disrepair, meaning the cover has been taped back on. I didn't have a comic box back then, and I re-read it a lot-and I just kept going back for more. I've been able to read all the issues of the original series, but I'm still working on the other series, because they're hard to find. Anyway, now that you know who May Parker is, and how we got acquainted, onto the review!
           Spider-Girl is one of the greatest comics out there. Many have said that May is a great role-model and I have to admit, they're right. She honestly does her best to do the right thing, and constantly juggles the web-slinging, friends, and family. May is quite honestly one of my favorite characters, but I honestly couldn't tell you if I liked May better than Peter because I'm a fan of both. Anyway, the series is funny as well as intriguing. My only complaint is that sometimes they put in mysteries that never get solved in the actual series, but in mini-series from the MC2 Universe, such as Darkdevil, The Fantastic Five, and A-Next, and because of this, I've had to take some trips to Wikipedia. The series is supposed to be set like fifteen years in the future, but looks and seems like present day.
           The series has loads of sweet moments, funny moments, shocking moments, epic moments, and lots of family time between Peter, Mary Jane, May and Ben. There are also great moments between May and her friends, and there's also a couple pieces of drama. But what would a web-head be without some great villains? Well, May's encountered quite a few, but the one that I like seeing her clash with the most would have to be Funny Face, who basically dresses like a clown, and is more than a little nutty.
             So, basically, my favorite series ever, one of the greatest comics ever, and worth the read. Trust me. Awesome all around. Brilliant comic. Wonderful characters. Great enemies. Great...everything.

Handing Over the TARDIS keys

Today I learned that IDW-the comic book publishing company-lost the license for Doctor Who comics, and those rights were handed over to the comic book publishing company Titan Comics. They have comics lined up with both the Tenth Doctor and Eleventh Doctor. While I'm sad to hear IDW lost the rights-all my Who comics were by them (and by all of them, I meant the only three issues I own....so far), I'm hoping that Titan Comics can bring something new, because if one things for certain-nothing ever stays the same in the Whoniverse. Not the crew, cast, comics, or even the audience. Looking forward to more comics with the Doctor!

What I'm Looking Forward To: 2014 Edition

Finally! I said months ago that I would be publishing this post, but never got around to it, so let's get started!



Castle: Returns February 17th



Castle is one of my favorite series, and I watch it every week, and though I'm a bit behind in the episodes, I still cannot wait for this episode, because I can just hear Castle's wild theories already.

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.-Returns March 4th



Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is another show that I love, and is slowly making it's way to one of my favorite shows, next to Doctor Who and Castle. That last cliffhanger-wow! Can't wait until this episode to find out what happens, but I'm more interested in episode 15, because that's when Sif will be appearing, and I'm really looking forward to that episode. I'm just curious what's with all the Asgardian stuff. We've had plenty of references to it, and the episode that tied into The Dark World. I'm not complaining, though, but it's kind of strange. Especially when the writers mentioned this: Odin will be sending Sif to Earth to look for her arch nemesis, Lorelei. Now, those who have seen the Dark World will know why this is a piece of particularly interesting information...let the theories begin! And the wait of course....three weeks without AOS....

MegaCon: March 21st-23rd.
Me and my parents go to MegaCon every year. For us, it's Halloween and Christmas combined. In fact, it's the only day of the year I wake up early willingly (I don't even wake up early for Christmas). The shopping, the costumes, the panels. For me, it's heaven on earth. And I can't wait till March 21st!

Captain America: The Winter Soldier- April 4th


As I've stated before, I wasn't impressed with the first trailer they released, but this one makes the movie look awesome, and I'm really looking forward to the movie, and I can't wait until it releases. I feel like I'm cheating on Spidey when I say this, but Cap 2 looks more awesome. (Sorry, Spidey! Your trailer/movie looks awesome too!) I'm also going to add the first TV spot for Cap 2 'cause I love the tagline 'In Heroes We Trust'.



The Amazing Spider-Man 2- May 2nd



I really excited for ASM2, but I'm really worried about it, because it looks awesome, but it could go so wrong. Especially with all these villains (The Rhino, Electro, and the Goblin), it might not go right. And I'm really worried about how close they'll stay close to the comics, I mean I know eventually they'll have Gwen's fate in the movies, but I'm concerned how they'll pull it off in this one, but will it actually happen? Let's hope the movie is good because I'm really looking forward to it!

Heroes of Olympus: Blood of Olympus-October
Last summer, I started reading the Percy Jackson series, and Heroes of Olympus is a follow up series, and the next book (which I believe is it's last) will be coming out this October. Needless to say, I'm looking forward to it.

Doctor Who: Series Eight-Autumn
While technically speaking it has no release date, most of the rumors are stating Autumn, so I put Autumn here. As there's no trailer or anything for Series Eight, I cannot post one here. Obviously, I'm excited because it's Who! We have a new Doctor, we might have a new companion joining him and Clara, we have the return of the Posternoster gang, I can't wait!

(Note: I didn't put in X-Men: Days of Future Past because I wasn't all that impressed by the first trailer, so my reservations is still held out on that one, plus I don't know how they will manage the movie with so many characters. Sure, The Avengers and Age of Ultron will have a ton of characters, but not as many as Days of Future Past. Still, you never know. Also, I didn't put Guardians of the Galaxy on here either because we know little to nothing about the movie, and no trailers have been released, so again, I'm still holding my reservations on those).

Doctor Who
Those lucky enough to go to Comic-Con got to see...the 50th trailer (which has yet to appear on the 'net), but we also found something else out.
This is where the spoilers appear sweetie, so you may want to look away!
The Daleks are returning. It's official. Here's the gallery of photos from the 50th featuring the Daleks.
Alright, Whovians, it's time to do some theorizing on my part. Obviously, these photos are from an unexplored area in Who-Lore (okay, never saying that again); The Time War. Many have said it, and I agree. The Daleks are obviously on Gallifrey, because if you look closely enough, you'll see a circular gallifreyan symbol behind the Daleks in at least two pictures. The most we've ever seen about the Time War was from The End of Time. Hmm..
Note: I will post the trailer as soon as it's been released.

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. 
One of the shows I'm most looking forward to.... they showed the FULL first episode of AOS at Comic-Con (yes, the first episode..) It seems to have gotten a lot of good reviews too.
 Anyway, one thing that has been confirmed, is that Maria Hill is going to be in the Pilot episode.

 Other News:
 Avengers 2 officially has a title! Avengers: Age of Ultron. Something robotic this way comes!

What I'm Looking Forward To: March 2013 Edition

Hey everyone! You might remember when I did a 2013 What I'm Looking Forward To post, and so now I'm doing one for March. Let's start!


1. Psych
Yes I know, technically Psych returns February 27th, which is at the end of February, but I'm still putting it in the Post.

2. Haunted Collector- okay, so I love watching these kinds of shows. I watch Ghost Hunters a lot, but I enjoy watching Haunted Collector. Anyhow, Haunted Collector returns March 6th. So it's on my March Calendar.

3. MegaCon-You might know that I LOVE going to MegaCon, so it's no secret that I'm excited! MegaCon is March 15-17th.

4. Gears Of War: Judgement- In a nutshell, I CAN'T WAIT!! Anyway, Judgement comes out March 19th.

5. Doctor Who-Alright, I'm just going to say the date, otherwise I'll be babbling, a lot, about Doctor Who. March 30th is when the new episode premieres! :)

6: Doctor Who: Fifty Anniversary-This November! :)

Doctor Who: Series Seven Part Two Premiere

Of course, the thing I'm looking most forward to. Doctor Who is supposedly coming back this Spring. Hopefully, we'll have a new trailer soon, with a release date. (A Girl can dream)




Pretty Little Liars

Let's be honest, the one thing you can look forward too, is Pretty Little Liars. Supposedly, season four will be premiering sometime in June, or around that time.
Meaning, more lies, more reveals, and more questions. You know, the usual.





Gears of War: Judgement 

Could you have ever imagined that I, PLL fan and Whovian, could be a Gears fan? No, alright then. Still, I'm looking forward to the new game... 50 some-odd days and counting...
Psych

Wait for it (drawing out the 'it') is the one thing us Psych-Os have been doing for months. (Translation Time: Psych-Os, is the kind name for Psych fans)
And the wait keeps getting longer...






MEGACON: 2013
One Word: YIPPEE!! Cannot wait until MegaCon, as usual.

Doctor Who: The Only Good Dalek

Doctor Who: The Only Good Dalek is a full-color graphic novel featuring The Doctor (Matt Smith) and Amy Pond (Karen Gillan) fighting off the Daleks, and worse.

    'Have you ever even seen a Dalek? Ever fought one? Have you any idea what they are really like? I've been on the front line. I've seen whole planets destroyed. The Only good Dalek is a dead Dalek.'

The Doctor and Amy find themselves on an adventure, as they witness a War against the Humans and the Daleks. In time they find the one thing they never, ever expected to find; The only good Dalek.

'The Only Good Dalek' is a graphic novel by Justin Richards, and Mike Collins. The pair managed to make this graphic novel truly feel as if it were an episode of Series Five, even having the caution to hide a Time Field Crack hidden in the novel-keep your eyes open!-I personally liked it, even if I read it after 'The Angels Take Manhattan' I personally loved Amy's outfit in the graphic novel, and really enjoyed it. I felt it had the true 'Doctor Who' feel to it; Daleks, The Doctor, Alien Planets, the Companions, the Allies, and, of course, the Adventure and Danger-that truly felt real, and of course, the cool ending. I had the novel done within a little over a day!

If you see this Graphic Novel anywhere, get it! I'd been wanting to read this book for awhile, and was thankful that I could!

Spider Girl Comic Book Series Review!

I'm Back! So to speak. Sorry for the major delay in posts, I've come down with a nasty cold, but I'm getting close to being over with it, so here I am!
Now, When, oh dear, I can't remember when I started reading these! Maybe, what, three to four years now? Well, all My life I've gone to Comic Book stores with Mom and Dad, and gone to see Comic Book movies. Well one of my favorites was-and still is- Spider-Man. Well, When Spider-Man 3 came out, I got a Spider-Man magazine, and it had an article on Spider-Girl. (I had originally thought Spider-Girl was Mary Jane-I had not read any form of Marvel comics prior to this- but Dad explained Spider Girl was May Parker, daughter to Peter and Mary Jane, and older sister to Ben 'Benji' Parker.)
Well, then one day in a Comic Book store, I saw a Spider-Girl comic with Mary Jane and Spider-Girl together. I do believe the next time we went to the store, I got it. I usually read my comics on the way home, but I think I waited until I got home.......... I read it, and I instantly loved it! Unlike some comics, it didn't have any language or anything bad in it-well minus a kick butt girl, kicking butt.
And since then I've been collecting them. The one above is the First Issue of Spider-Girl. I was so happy when I found it!
Can you give Comics stars? Answer: Yes! Out of Five? A thousand Gold stars to you Spider-Girl!

Oh and P.S. This is the original Spider-Girl, not Big Time Spider-Girl! Also May Parker-Spider-Girl- has had several other Spider-Girl series- The Amazing Spider-Girl and The Spectacular Spider-Girl
