A Spider-Girl Fan's Thoughts

As many of you know, I am a Spider-Girl fan, and while I try to keep negative posts off my blog, I feel the need to share my thoughts on the current plot that our girl Mayday has been put in, thanks to the Spider-Verse. Major spoilers follow below, obviously, for both the Spider-Verse storyline as well as an episode of Ultimate Spider-Man.

Breaking News: Marvel, Who, Trailers, Oh My!

Alright, so there's a lot of news today. A ton, most of which are very exciting. And I must say, one of them had me bouncing around my room/house with joy. First off, let's start off with the most recent Guardians of the Galaxy UK trailer, which features basically an entire trailer filled with new footage. It might contain some spoilers, just so yall know.



Little Mini Review for the trailer: Okay. Awesome. At first I was kind of 'eh, looks alright' about the movie, but the more I watched the first trailer, the more excited I got. The second trailer was awesome, but this one? Oh my goodness, this looks downright marvelous, hilarious, fun, action packed....is it August yet?

The second bit of news is this:

After the news that Titan Comics would be coming out with brand new comic-book series featuring both the Tenth and Eleventh Doctor with brand new companions (you can see the trailers for these here and here), I was beginning to wonder if they'd make one with the Twelfth Doctor (actually, come to think of it, I mentioned it to my Mom last night), and this morning, I find that they are going to do a comic series featuring Twelve and Clara. The Twelfth Doctor comics are set to be released on October 1st, while the Eleventh and Tenth Doctor comics are set to be released July 23rd. I must say, I'm glad to see those two back in comics, and I'm really looking forward to seeing Twelve in comic form.

The last bit of news is this: the current Spider-Man cartoon series, Ultimate Spider-Man is set to return on August 31st, and will supposedly be renamed Marvel's Ultimate Spider-Man: Web Warriors. The promotional image featured many different versions of Spider-Man, (most of which I didn't actually recognize), and also included Spoilers Ahead Spider-Girl on the image, which is the bit of news that had me bouncing up and down around the house. Ahem. But seriously, how cool is that (so long as they get her right)? May and Peter on the same show? Yowzah!

I've been kind of on a hiatus here lately, and I apologize for that, but I've got some new stuff to review, including The Staff of Serapis, the Red Dawn remake (which I watched last night), and also the rest of the Sherlock episodes I've seen so far (I've yet to continue onto season/series three). Spider-Girl: The Series Review

Alright, I'm cheating a little. Yes, I've done reviews on Spider-Girl in the past, but this time I'm doing a review on Spider-Girl, the first-and longest-title to run with May 'Mayday' Parker in the lead. The other series with May in the lead would be The Amazing Spider-Girl, The Spectacular Spider-Girl (there were two series with that name-an online series and a four part miniseries), and the final issue Spider Girl: The End. 
 Now, who exactly is May Parker? I'll give you a little run down if you don't know who she is. Firstly, though, I want to clear something up. This series is set in the MC2 universe. It was based off a one-shot by What If? which featured the young web-spinner discovering her father's secret past as the costumed adventurer Spidey, and that she had inherited his abilities. Because fans demanded it, May was given her own series, and that series-Spider-Girl-ran for 100 issues (excluding the 1999 annual they did, and a one-off that featured May, Wild Thing, and Franklin Richards), before it ended. Anyway, the question I was going to answer: May Parker. May is the daughter of Peter Parker and Mary Jane Parker (former Watson), and is later the older sister to a younger brother named Ben Parker. Why did May become a web-head? Responsibility. Not because she lost someone. No. She has learned from her father's mistakes, and May will do what's right simply because it's right, and often judges herself when she is unable to save someone.
       Spider-Girl is the second comic-book series I'd ever started to collect, but was the first that I seriously began to collect. I've been a fan of Spider-Girl for....well, quite a number of years. I saw a comic book with Mary Jane and a girl in a Spider-Man costume on it, with the title The Amazing Spider-Girl (it was issue 8). That was my first issue-and is now in a state of disrepair, meaning the cover has been taped back on. I didn't have a comic box back then, and I re-read it a lot-and I just kept going back for more. I've been able to read all the issues of the original series, but I'm still working on the other series, because they're hard to find. Anyway, now that you know who May Parker is, and how we got acquainted, onto the review!
           Spider-Girl is one of the greatest comics out there. Many have said that May is a great role-model and I have to admit, they're right. She honestly does her best to do the right thing, and constantly juggles the web-slinging, friends, and family. May is quite honestly one of my favorite characters, but I honestly couldn't tell you if I liked May better than Peter because I'm a fan of both. Anyway, the series is funny as well as intriguing. My only complaint is that sometimes they put in mysteries that never get solved in the actual series, but in mini-series from the MC2 Universe, such as Darkdevil, The Fantastic Five, and A-Next, and because of this, I've had to take some trips to Wikipedia. The series is supposed to be set like fifteen years in the future, but looks and seems like present day.
           The series has loads of sweet moments, funny moments, shocking moments, epic moments, and lots of family time between Peter, Mary Jane, May and Ben. There are also great moments between May and her friends, and there's also a couple pieces of drama. But what would a web-head be without some great villains? Well, May's encountered quite a few, but the one that I like seeing her clash with the most would have to be Funny Face, who basically dresses like a clown, and is more than a little nutty.
             So, basically, my favorite series ever, one of the greatest comics ever, and worth the read. Trust me. Awesome all around. Brilliant comic. Wonderful characters. Great enemies. Great...everything.
