A Spider-Girl Fan's Thoughts

As many of you know, I am a Spider-Girl fan, and while I try to keep negative posts off my blog, I feel the need to share my thoughts on the current plot that our girl Mayday has been put in, thanks to the Spider-Verse. Major spoilers follow below, obviously, for both the Spider-Verse storyline as well as an episode of Ultimate Spider-Man.
Spoilers Now Follow. My anger started a while back, not long after they announced Spider-Girl would appear in an episode of Ultimate Spider-Man. The major geek that I am, I was geeking out, bouncing around my house in excitement-Mayday Parker on television? It was a dream come true! However, the writers had a very different idea, and turned this 'Spider-Girl' into a female version of Peter, named 'Petra Parker', in a gender-swapped universe. Of course, I was upset. The costume they had come up with for this 'Spider-Girl' looked nearly identical to Mayday's, with a few alterations. I was also upset that they felt the need to make yet another 'Spider-Girl' when there already was one who was the daughter of Peter Parker and Mary Jane Watson.
Still, I had hopes that the Spider-Verse wouldn't mess things up too bad for May. Then they realized the preview for the comic, and my hopes definitely plummeted (the Parker's house was on fire! What was going on?). Then one morning, I went to go check for something on the Mayday Parker tag on Tumblr, and low and behold, what do I find? The pages in which Mayday Parker and family were introduced into the comic.
First of all, there were so many continuity issues-some others pointed out in which I missed-and then the comic went on to kill off Peter, Mary Jane and Wes-May's current boyfriend-. May and Benjy managed to escape with the aid of some Spider-People, ending the comic with Mayday swearing revenge in the most blunt, 'oh-our-readers-need-it-spelled-out-for-them-to-understand' sort of way.
After this, I swore that I wouldn't dare buy any of the Spider-Verse (though I did leaf through it at a comic book store to make sure it wasn't some big hoax, and low and behold, it wasn't!). I frequently check the tag on Tumblr, now, though, to see what else happens.
Apparently, in the most recent issue, the bad guys take Benjy from May while she lies on the ground, helpless, and battered and bruised. Doesn't sound like our girl, Mayday, huh? From something I read, it appears that May is only there to stand around, with zero sass and butt-kicking abilities. Basically, the very opposite that May is. However, despite my anger towards the Spider-Verse, there is one good thing coming out of it: The Spider-Girl team is returning for a short story featuring May (you know, Tom DeFalco and Ron Frenz) which will hopefully fix the horror that is what the current writers have made May-who would never throw away 'the morals my father taught me' in order to get revenge, not to mention the whole point of Spider-Girl was that she wasn't Peter, she had her parents and a significant other who did. not. need. to. die.-. Phew. Sorry for the long post, guys, but this has been bugging me for a while, and I needed to write down my thoughts.
