Captain America: The Winter Soldier Review

Screencap from the trailer
Captain America: The Winter Soldier, was it a good film? Yes. Was it different from past Marvel films? Yes. Was it a game-changer? Hah! That's one way of putting it. Before I go any further, I would like to say one thing, this post will be spoiler-free. So, if anyone who hasn't seen the film already, can precede on, though seriously, go see it!
Anyway, Winter Soldier has been on the list of movies that we were definitely going to go see at my house-my Dad thought it looked awesome from the very first trailer-and boy, it was worth it. The film had what I guess is the trademark comedy side of Marvel films, but it wasn't a comedy film. It didn't have as many jokes as Thor, or Thor: The Dark World. In fact, this is one of the most serious films Marvel has done, 'cause, seriously, it didn't focus on comedy. There were a few one-liners here and there, but that's it.
But what about the most important thing about comic-book films? The Action. The action was awesome. I read somewhere that they used 'shaky-cam' but the camera seemed to stay focused in my opinion. The action scenes was done wonderfully, and the whole car chase scene was pretty dang cool.
But how about the villain? The Winter Soldier. Very menacing. After the car chase, when it did a close up, and he was wearing those glasses, my goodness gracious, he didn't have to say nothing, he was just very menacing. As a villain he was very menacing, even if you knew who he was. (I won't spoil in case some don't know).
On the hero-side, you have Steve Rodgers, Natasha Romanoff, and Sam Wilson. I admit, they made a pretty darn cool trio of not-so-super-super heroes. The fights between Steve and Winter Soldier had a lot of tension, and when Steve finds out who the Soldier is, it gets a lot more interesting.
Some of the flashbacks were cool, and others were really disturbing. There were a lot of nice moments between characters, particularly between Steve and Fury, and Steve and Natasha, and there are some nice moments between Steve and Sam as well.
There were plot-twists. Plenty of plot-twists. (I think that's Phase 2's thing, you know, plot twists. What Phase One was, I don't know. Comedy? Fun?) But, I knew some of them because I'd accidentally seen some spoilers online-I tried, I really, really did. I didn't want to be spoiled, promise!-but even still, some of them were a shock, and it made me go, 'hang on, is that-', so yeah.
There are some nice callbacks to the first film, which was a nice touch as well. You learned a bit more about Natasha, but not much. Maria Hill wasn't in the film as much, and I think she had a slightly bigger role in the Avengers. However, some of her scenes were cool.
One of the scenes towards the beginning of the film made my mouth drop. (Minor Spoilers, though anyone who's seen the trailer will know about it) all those Helicarriers. Wow. Completely made my mouth drop. I couldn't help but think though, 'I like the Bus better'.
Does this film change the Marvel Cinematic Universe? Yes. Will Agents of SHIELD be feeling the aftershocks? Oh, yes. Things are going to be a lot different for the team on there.
But, down to business. Was the film awesome? Was it as good as the Avengers. As much as I hate to say it, I honestly don't think it was. It was a great film, really. It was awesome. But it's not as good as the Avengers. If I had to rank a top three for films, it would go like this:
   1. The Avengers
  2. Star Trek Into Darkness
  3. Captain America: The Winter Soldier

Stars:
Four out of Five

Thoughts on the Trailers
Transformers: Age Of Extinction  looked pretty darn cool. (Even if I walked out of the room during the second one due to a 'death' of one of the Transformers, and I didn't see the third one, I think there was a third one) I've seen two of the Transformers movies, and they were good, and this one looks pretty cool. Though, I think it might be a wait-till-DVD thing...
Maleficent looked alright. The trailer we saw didn't look as good as the first one I saw. Even though I'm not a Disney person, I do know how the Sleeping Beauty story goes, and it doesn't look like it's sticking to the tale. I probably won't watch this film, but the first trailer was alright.
The Amazing Spider-Man 2 looks awesome. And I'm absolutely biased to write a review on this trailer, because I'm a major spidey-fan, and I'm counting down the days to the film, but I'm still going to write this area. It looks awesome. It looks completely downright...spectacular when you watch the trailer on the big-screen. Though I've seen the trailers so many times, I knew all the lines and all that, but it was still awesome. May 2nd here I come! Hehem...
Guardians of the Galaxy looks alright. Admittedly, I wasn't exactly hooked on the idea of the movie through the first trailer, I admit the more times I watch the trailer, it looks better. I might see it, I'm not sure, but as my dad said, 'Superheroes in space-you can't go wrong with that'.
I was really surprised they didn't show a trailer for X-Men: Days of Future Past. I don't know why....

Note: When you go, stay seated until the screen that says: 'Captain America Will Return [insert movie title here]' shows up. There are two after credits scenes, and the first one is a definite must watch. The second is up to you rather or not you want to see it, but it does show what happens to a character from the film. So, the first, ties in pretty well into Age of Ultron, the second not-so much, but again, up to you. (Also, practically no one left their seats when the movie went off. A couple did, but not many.) Also, in the first mid-credits scene an 'uh-oh' escaped my mouth.....

Marvel: Assembling A Universe Review

So, last night, the documentary/special about the Marvel Cinematic Universe premiered, but was it any good? Well, in a word, in a very bad pun, it was marvelous. I particularly love watching special features, and I find it fascinating to see how films/television shows come together into the thing we see on the screen, and it's interesting from a writer's standpoint to see what's it's like for other writers, or at least that's how it is for me. So, I guess you could say that I'm slightly biased, but, still, seriously, if you can, watch this special, because it's really interesting, it's not boring, it's a perfect companion and really showcases how the Marvel Cinematic Universe came together.

Synopsis: Written By Me
Take a look behind the scenes of the Marvel Cinematic Universe to see how films just as Iron Man, Thor, Captain America: The First Avenger and the Incredible Hulk came together to form one of the best comic book films of all time: The Avengers.

Review:
Unlike some specials, this documentary/special was really interesting, and kept my attention. It was funny in some areas, making me laugh. It highlighted each film, and showcased a lot of interesting parts, and how the films connect into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It also showed a few new clips from Captain America: The Winter Solider, which has become the film I'm looking forward to the most, to be honest, and a very short amount of new clips from Guardians of the Galaxy, which I'm also starting to look forward to as well. It also showcased some concept art for Avengers: Age of Ultron, featuring designs for Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch, and also a piece of concept art of the Hulk and Black Widow standing back to back. Another bit of what I imagine is concept art, is a gigantic Iron Man suit battling the Hulk-did Ultron tap into the armor? Or did Hulk lose control somehow?-which made me sit up straight watching it. It also showed a few new clips from the upcoming episodes of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., which shows *Spoilers* the Bus landing on what looks to be a helicarrier (I didn't notice this the first time I watched the trailer for Assembling a Universe, but someone pointed it out on Youtube), and Agent Hand saying that there is an agent down. (A 'What?' escaped my lips at this). It also showed-what I'm assuming is visual effects testing-testing for the upcoming Ant-Man film, and also showed some insight on the makings of the Marvel One-Shots (A Funny thing Happened on the Way to Thor's Hammer; Agent Carter). In all, the special was really interesting, had a lot of great guest stars, awesome footage from Comic-Con (*sigh*), and was just plain marvelous all around. Avengers, Assemble!

5/5

Captain America: The Winter Soldier Clip Released

Clearly, SPOILERS follow if you watch the clip, but if you're in the mood for a new trailer and not a clip, then at the 2:47 mark it starts a new trailed for the movie, however there are spoilers in it too, through a voice-over, so, I highly advise you to take caution before playing the play button. I nearly thought about waiting, but I decided to watch it anyway. Now, below I'm going to be writing my thoughts about the clip, and be warned it does have Spoilers in that as well, so take caution if you are not a spoiler-fan.

LAST CHANCE: SPOILERS

Still with me? Alrighty, then. That was a pretty impressive clip, I'd say. What really took me by surprise was that Cap called Natasha 'Nat'. The only other person I've ever heard call her that was Clint/Hawkeye. I'm assuming, well not really as the actors and writer confirmed it, that Cap and Natasha have been working together on missions since the Avengers. The clip was cool, and funny, and awesome all at the same time. I really loved the one line from Cap: "Secure the engine room first, then find me a date". Onto the trailer. That was awesome, and I still love the tagline 'In Heroes We Trust'. Honestly, that should've been on the poster (was it on the poster?). Anyway, the voice-over had me going, I was going, 'that was, that was [SPOILERS]. So, yeah. Awesome trailer. I can't wait 'till next month (really? It's that far away?) to see this film, because, honestly, it looks like it could be the best movie of the year. (Uh, Spidey as well, I can't forget my favorite super-hero). So, yeah, awesome clip, awesome trailer, and my spidey-senses are saying 'awesome movie'.

END OF SPOILERS

If you watched the clip/trailer, what did you think? If not, what are your hopes for the film? Will you go see it? Comment Below!

What I'm Looking Forward To: 2014 Edition

Finally! I said months ago that I would be publishing this post, but never got around to it, so let's get started!

Castle: Returns February 17th

Castle is one of my favorite series, and I watch it every week, and though I'm a bit behind in the episodes, I still cannot wait for this episode, because I can just hear Castle's wild theories already.

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.-Returns March 4th

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is another show that I love, and is slowly making it's way to one of my favorite shows, next to Doctor Who and Castle. That last cliffhanger-wow! Can't wait until this episode to find out what happens, but I'm more interested in episode 15, because that's when Sif will be appearing, and I'm really looking forward to that episode. I'm just curious what's with all the Asgardian stuff. We've had plenty of references to it, and the episode that tied into The Dark World. I'm not complaining, though, but it's kind of strange. Especially when the writers mentioned this: Odin will be sending Sif to Earth to look for her arch nemesis, Lorelei. Now, those who have seen the Dark World will know why this is a piece of particularly interesting information...let the theories begin! And the wait of course....three weeks without AOS....

MegaCon: March 21st-23rd.
Me and my parents go to MegaCon every year. For us, it's Halloween and Christmas combined. In fact, it's the only day of the year I wake up early willingly (I don't even wake up early for Christmas). The shopping, the costumes, the panels. For me, it's heaven on earth. And I can't wait till March 21st!

Captain America: The Winter Soldier- April 4th

As I've stated before, I wasn't impressed with the first trailer they released, but this one makes the movie look awesome, and I'm really looking forward to the movie, and I can't wait until it releases. I feel like I'm cheating on Spidey when I say this, but Cap 2 looks more awesome. (Sorry, Spidey! Your trailer/movie looks awesome too!) I'm also going to add the first TV spot for Cap 2 'cause I love the tagline 'In Heroes We Trust'.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2- May 2nd

I really excited for ASM2, but I'm really worried about it, because it looks awesome, but it could go so wrong. Especially with all these villains (The Rhino, Electro, and the Goblin), it might not go right. And I'm really worried about how close they'll stay close to the comics, I mean I know eventually they'll have Gwen's fate in the movies, but I'm concerned how they'll pull it off in this one, but will it actually happen? Let's hope the movie is good because I'm really looking forward to it!

Heroes of Olympus: Blood of Olympus-October
Last summer, I started reading the Percy Jackson series, and Heroes of Olympus is a follow up series, and the next book (which I believe is it's last) will be coming out this October. Needless to say, I'm looking forward to it.

Doctor Who: Series Eight-Autumn
While technically speaking it has no release date, most of the rumors are stating Autumn, so I put Autumn here. As there's no trailer or anything for Series Eight, I cannot post one here. Obviously, I'm excited because it's Who! We have a new Doctor, we might have a new companion joining him and Clara, we have the return of the Posternoster gang, I can't wait!

(Note: I didn't put in X-Men: Days of Future Past because I wasn't all that impressed by the first trailer, so my reservations is still held out on that one, plus I don't know how they will manage the movie with so many characters. Sure, The Avengers and Age of Ultron will have a ton of characters, but not as many as Days of Future Past. Still, you never know. Also, I didn't put Guardians of the Galaxy on here either because we know little to nothing about the movie, and no trailers have been released, so again, I'm still holding my reservations on those).

What are you looking forward to this year? Comment Below!

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and Captain America 2: The Winter Soldier-Extended Trailers

Hello, everyone! So, in my absence, new trailers were released for The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and Captain America 2: The Winter Soldier. This has to have been the first time I was looking forward to a Superbowl (I'm more of a basketball girl myself), and the wait for these trailers was worth it. Onto the trailers!

THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 TRAILER

Wow. This movie just keeps looking better and better with each passing trailer. This movie looks so good, yet it could go so wrong...either way, I can't wait until the movie comes out. The beginning scene is hilarious.
'Alright, laundry sheriff.'

CAPTAIN AMERICA 2: THE WINTER SOLDIER TRAILER

I'll admit. I wasn't impressed by the first trailer they released back in, what, November last year? Well, this trailer more than makes up my mind that this is going to be an awesome movie. I can't wait until April, because this looks awesome. The music in this trailer is so creepy and awesome at the same time, and...it's just awesome. I can't wait.

Which one are you more excited for? What did you think of the trailers? Comment below!
