WARNING: DO NOT READ UNLESS YOU HAVE SEEN 'Beginning of the End'
Wow. Just wow. 'End of the
Beginning' was an awesome season
finale for an awesome show. It had it all: action, adventure,
heartbreak, humor-the whole enchilada. But, let's get onto the
review, shall we?
Synopsis:
Coulson
and his team are making one final stand against Hydra forces, run by
Garret, former ally turned enemy. The SHIELD/Hydra war is coming to a
close-but who will win? And who will lose?
Review:
I
think that was a brilliant season finale. It was hilarious. I lost
track of how many hilarious lines were in that episode, and how many
awesome scenes were in it. I mean, it was hilarious. It had me
bursting out laughing more than once. Though it wasn't all fun and
games. Fitzsimmons were revealed to be alive from their trip down to
the bottom floor of the ocean, and only a few injuries, including a
broken arm for Fitz. Realizing that they are about to die, they began
to try and come to terms with their fate, but quickly realize a way
out. Blowing a hole in the window would let all the water in, and
allow them to escape and quickly swim to the surface, using oxygen in
the chamber. This scene would be where I began to cry, because of
Fitz's plan, I was just going 'no, no, no! Not happening!'. I am glad
that they both survived (for the time being, I don't like how Simmons
said 'he's alive'. That didn't sound very good). And don't get me
started on how Fitz finally told her (ish) about how he felt (I
might've jumped up and down if it wasn't for the heartbreak of it
all. I've gotten far too attached to all of these characters, it's
ridiculous.)
The
attack against Hydra was awesome, though. Everyone had a part to do,
and the explosions were awesome, everyone was awesome, and Skye's
line about the bomb was hilarious 'This is a bomb. You know what
those do'. Another hilarious line from Skye would've been about her
secret weapon, which I'm changing this line, because I'm old
fashioned and I do not like cuss words: 'You had a relationship with
her, and she's ticked off.'. That line had me laughing so much that I
missed the first minute or so of the May/Ward fight, which I was
seriously looking forward to. (I told you, I take betrayals
personally!)
Although,
boy, Garrett went completely wackoo in the end. Yowzah. The whole
scene with the Government officials, that was...that was disturbing
(and I watch the Scream franchise,
and Bones). I must say
the actor that plays Garrett (Bill Paxton) played insane very well.
Coulson
was hilarious as ever, and I particularly liked his 'Well, that was
new line' which (of course, being a Whovian) reminded me of the
Doctor's line in the beginning of Asylum of the Daleks:
'Well, this is new'. I particularly liked how they brought back the
weapon that Coulson attempted to use on Loki in the
Avengers. I also found the
exchange between Fury, Coulson and Garret, and how Fury was just all
like, “You turned Hydra because you misunderstood my 'one man'
speech?” Then just turned to Coulson and asked, “You
got it, right?”
Another
scene I really liked was the scene at the end, when Coulson was
yelling at Fury, about the whole thing being stupid and risky, which
I found to be hilarious the way Coulson was going off at Fury. I also
liked how Fury called Coulson an Avenger, which seemed to take him by
surprise, but let's be honest, he was. He was the glue in the team.
And I liked how they sort of made comments on that.
I
was really hoping for a happy ending for Mike (because if a character
deserves it on that show, it's him, especially with Ace), and I like
how they made the quote from the start of the series be a use to the
plot, which I figured would be what Ace would tell her, though I
wasn't sure about it as Skye had already heard that in the plot, but
then again, either way, Mike would know that Skye or Ace was with
him.
But,
SHIELD is back! And Coulson's the director, I literally began to clap
when Fury made him director. With Coulson in the lead of SHIELD, it
will become what it was meant to: a shield against evil, to protect
the innocent. I think SHIELD is in pretty safe hands with Coulson at
the helm.
When
they landed, and when they saw Eric, or his look alike (Pardon, but I
can't remember his name, I woke up extremely early this morning, far
earlier than I'm use to), I thought 'wait what? Er....Life Model
Decoy? Maybe?'. To be honest, I haven't ever seen one of those, but I
know what they are (thank you internet). So that'll be interesting.
Although,
the team has new enemies-well, old ones-to face next season, possibly
in the face of Raina, and Quinn. Also, whoever may come back. I have
a feeling, though, that that wasn't the last we'll see of Grant Ward.
I'm also very much interested in the first end scene-who was Raina
talking too? And what was that weird gunk coming off that person's
(Skye's parent) arm. Another interesting bit was the end scene, with
Coulson. Is he starting to lose his mind? Guess we'll find out in the
fall.
Oh,
by the way, ABC confirmed that AOS 'stime slot would be changed to 9:00pm on Tuesdays. With any luck
that'll help with ratings, that way it is not competing with NCIS,
although now it has to hold up against Supernatural-I
think, anyway.

So much awesomeness in the episode, especially because of Fury's extended appearance. Wow, there was so much in this episode that surprised me! Coulson shooting Garrett after he had his cliched supervillain comeback was postively hilarious! I laughed so hard during that scene. Excellent review as always Tegan.

I know right? When Fury showed up, I was going, 'Thank you sir, thank you, thank you, thank you!'. And he just had so many good one-liners in the episode it was hilarious. I know, right? That was hilarious. Coulson wasn't having none of that 'unstoppable' business there, Garret. Thank you! :)
