Review:
Like one of the previous Doctor Who books I've read that was written by James Goss (Dead of Winter), the book is set entirely in first person POV, particularly that of the unnamed Governor. The Governor is surprisingly like able, with a bit of a clouded back story, though. Like the previous book I've read that was set during this season (Silhouette), there were many references to this season, though at some references it's a bit ambiguous as to when these events happened (if they even happened during Twelve's lifetime, or Eleven's). Like Silhouette, at times the Doctor can read off a bit like Eleven (though that could be my fault, as he's the Doctor I've watched the most of, and I might just be reading it occasionally as his lines), however the author seems to have a much better grasp of the Twelfth Doctor than others. Goss also gets the characterization of Clara right too, particularly her fondness of books, which hasn't been featured very much in books. The book itself is a bit slow-paced, but not nearly as slow as Dead of Winter, and the plot for The Blood Cell is very interesting, and does keep you guessing. While the resolve to the plot is a bit short, it's rather well done. Another thing I loved about the book is that it featured Twelve and Clara's bickering, which is one of the things I love about their friendship. In all, it's a great book with plenty of laughs, suspense, and more.
Overview:
4/5
