Doctor Who: Death In Heaven Review

I'm finally reviewing the season/series (if you live in the UK) finale of Doctor Who. I didn't get around to it Saturday, and I didn't feel too good yesterday, so here I am! Onto the review!

Synopsis:
The mysterious Missy-who has revealed her identity to the Doctor- promises that the world will change in the course of 24 hours, and
that change won't be for the good. While the Doctor is stuck with UNIT trying to save the world, Clara finds herself in the midst of a Cybermen army-with one soldier who refuses to take orders.

Review:
Where shall I start? Well, the episode made me laugh, it made me scream at the TV, made me gasp, made me jump, made me go 'eeeee'-several times-, and it made me cry. So, basically, just your typical season finale. The episode starts directly where it lefts off-sort of-and shows off an awesome scene with Clara, with a twist on the usual title credits. The Cybermen are still just as scary-I'd say this episode was one of the scariest episodes the Cybermen have been in that I've seen-and I can confirm that I will not be stepping into any graveyards for the rest of my life. Ever.
Anyway, the episode at the heart isn't about the Cybermen, it isn't even about the impending invasion, or the already happening invasion. Really, the heart of the story is the Doctor, Clara, Danny, and Missy. The four get the most screen-time of any of the characters, and the previous episodes about lying and the consequences are really brought into use in this episode, particularly with the Doctor and Clara, and by the episode ends, I suppose you could say the series has come full circle in that area.
The episode definitely had some heartwrenching moments, particularly centered around Danny and Clara once again, but the waterworks didn't start until the end of the episode, with a surprise tribute, which I will not spoil, except give you this one bit of advice: If you're sensitive (like me) then bring tissues when you watch. Trust me. It's the first season finale that I've cried through since Doomsday.
The episode certainly ends with a Christmas-y twist, and it's the first that we've had since.....Journey's End? No, hang on, I don't think that's it....Last of the Timelords? Triple parters, the titles get all mashed around in my head; I can never remember the right order. Anyway, the episode gives us a small glimpse at the-still-untitled Christmas Special, but we'll probably (hopefully) get a proper trailer and/or title next week, due to the fact that it's time for "Children in Need", and Doctor Who typically brings something to the table for that, rather it be a minisode, or even a small trailer.

  1. I liked very much how this episode seemed to revert back to Ten's day, with a side of classic Moffat heartbreak. When The Doctor and Clara are lying to make each other happy, and thinking that the other is happy seems to make them happy(er). And hugging just hides your face... aw.

    Good review!

  2. I suppose it was quite a bit like the Tenth Doctor finales, but it definitely had a good dish of heartbreak. It was a bittersweet moment between Twelve and Clara. Thank you, and sorry for what took so long to reply!
