From last week's The Bells of St. John you expected that Clara would be joining the Doctor full time, this week's episode blew that theory wide open. But onto the actual review.
Meet The Characters:
The Doctor- A Time Lord who travels through time and space, accompanied by his friends.
Clara Oswald-A young lady who dreams of traveling, and has a mystery surrounding her.
The Queen of Years- A little girl who finds herself in terrible danger....
The Technology:
The TARDIS: A Machine that can travel anywhere in time and space, and is bigger on the inside.
The Sonic Screwdriver: opens doors, ect.
Best Quotes:
"I'm armed-with a Screwdriver.."- The DoctorBest Moment:
When the Doctor and Clara first arrive on the Rings of Akhaten.
The Plot:
The Doctor attempts to find out who Clara is, and goes back to find out more about her history. He watches her parents meet, he watches, secretly, as she grows up. However he cannot figure out what is going on. She grew up a normal life, but there are two other versions of her. The Doctor, confused, states that 'She's not possible.'
Clara waits for the Doctor to arrive, and finally he does. Soon, he attempts to find out where she wants to go. She says that she hasn't a clue, and finally, smiling, says she wants to see something 'Awesome'. The Doctor smiles, and they arrive at The Rings of Akhaten. Soon, Clara meets The Queen of Years, and a mystery unravels.
The Review:
Ever since the beginning of this season, and I'm referring to Asylum of the Daleks, the plots seemed shorter, too quick, and losing their touch. While Asylum and St. John, were well written episodes, Dinosaurs on a Spaceship was an okay funny episode, but could have been better. A Town Called Mercy isn't one of my favorite episodes, but it's an alright episode. The Power of Three wasn't a good episode at all. It was highly disappointing in my mind. It wasn't what I had expected, and the episode fell apart and wasn't very good. The Angels Take Manhattan was a great episode, but not an awesome one. The Snowmen was a good episode, but I feel that that Clara met the Doctor too soon...
I loved The Bells of Saint John, and had high hopes for The Rings of Akhaten and the first thirty minutes were swell, and well written. However, the episodes seem too short now. The episodes are too fast, they arrive, something's wrong the fix it, they leave. While that's how all Doctor Who episodes are, usually they take a moment to step back, and let the viewers take it all in, and twenty minutes later, or so, they reveal who's behind it, and the rest of the episode is trying to stop it. I hope that this season gets much better, because I'm not enjoying the episodes as much as I enjoyed the episodes from season five, or season six.
Last Thoughts:
I did not understand the ending at all. Is Clara leaving and just waiting for the Doctor to come back for another adventure, or is she packing?

I am really torn about this episode, some of it felt odd and didn't work, but the last 10 minutes really worked well. Clara is likable though and I do enjoy her character although she doesn't have the same effect Amy Pond did during her first few episodes. Also I would like to know what happened to the special effects? They usually look better than this!
ReplyDeleteOverall, I would say it is one of Matt Smith's weaker episodes, however I did enjoy the first half of season 7 much more than you did.

As always, thank you for the comment. I did enjoy the season, but I felt that it wasn't as good as season five-which has so far been my favorite season. Season Seven is still a good season, but A Town Called Mercy and Power of Three were not my favorite episodes, I still enjoyed the season, and I look forward to next week's episode, Cold War. Though, I can't wait until the episode Hide, it sounds amazing! :)
ReplyDeleteI agree that it was not as good as season five or six and season five it is also my favorite season! :) And the "The Pandorica Opens" is probably my favorite episode from the series. A Town Called Mercy and Power of Three were a little disappointing to me as well, but still fun overall. Thanks for reviewing the recent episodes, you are one the only bloggers that do so.
