Synopsis:
Lawyer by day, vigilante at night, Matt Murdock finds himself in a battle for Hell's Kitchen with the elusive man known as 'Kingpin', a man with a dangerous and murky past who was big plans to make Hell's Kitchen a better place....or does he?
Review:
I'll be frank; I wasn't looking forward to Daredevil, and just didn't think it'd be good. So, naturally, Marvel proved me wrong once again (after DD and GOTG, I'll be keeping an open mind of future projects, I swear). The show follows the blind lawyer, Matt Murdock in his quest to save his hometown, Hell's Kitchen from the grasps of criminals, using his heightened senses from the accident that blinded him as a kid.
There's one thing that interested me about the show from the first episode; it didn't really feel like a superhero show. Yes, it features a guy running around in a mask kicking butt and taking names, but the main thing it feels like it is a crime show. Which I think the writers said they wanted, but it works. I'm not too big a fan of lawyer shows or court scenes, but whenever there was a court scene, it wasn't mind-numbing or boring; in fact, it was interesting and filled with tension.
The show is darker than the rest of the MCU, yes. Lots of blood, broken bones, ect. (including one scene at the start of episode three that kinda made me queasy, but oh well), but thankfully nothing racy. Ironically, despite it's MA rating, I believe it's less dark than Gotham...a show with a TV-14 rating.
Onto the most important thing in the series, or any series: the characters. Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) is an interesting, flawed, but determined to do what's right no matter what kind of character that you instantly like. He's kind, charming, and still able to kick your behind and go full on sort of 'Dark Knight' in a second's notice. Basically: beware the nice ones.
His partner and best friend, Foggy Nelson provides most of the comic relief in the series, but is equally as likeable and funny, and also gets a few of the more emotional scenes. Karen Page is a likeable, determined young woman who's hinted at having a dark past.
Claire Temple is a nurse who's kind and helpful, but not particularly fond of how her friend 'Mike' spends his nights, beating up criminals and what not, but still helps him. And then of course you have Mr. Wilson Fisk; the big bad of the series. I remember watching the Spider-Man cartoons when I was a kid, and they featured Fisk, but in Daredevil, there's something about Fisk that you can't help but like; he wants to help the city, he really does, but maybe just in precisely the wrong way. He's nice, he's a gentleman, but he has a bit of a temper (especially when you mess with Vanessa), and can go from 'nice' to 'terrifying' in a single moment. Now there's a villain.
The show was just amazing, and I literally missed watching it when we finished the series. When's the next season out, again?
Overview:
5/5
Note: Can we talk about how awesome the trailer music is though? Beautiful Crime by Tamer is just....well, beautiful.

New 'Daredevil' Trailer
Another trailer has been released for the Netflix original series 'Daredevil' (part of a deal with Marvel), which is to be released April 10th. Among other details, the trailer reveals the rating for the show as TV MA, which is not surprising giving Netflix's previous shows mainly being TV MA as well. One can only hope that this does not mean the show is too gritty (it is, after all, Marvel), but just a perfect balance.
