Selfie: Pilot Review

Screencap from the Trailer
I'm back, this time with a review for the upcoming series, Selfie, starring Karen Gillan (Doctor Who, Guardians of the Galaxy) and John Cho (Star Trek, Sleepy Hollow). It's a modern version of My Fair Lady.

Synopsis:
Eliza Dooley has it all: plenty of likes and followers.....and the one afternoon she realizes that she doesn't actually have any friends. Realizing that not many people actually like her, she goes to Henry Higenbottam, a fellow worker in marketing, in need of help to become a
better person.

Review:
The series itself has the image of a 'cutesy' show, which it is. It's got some silly things in the pilot-in my personal tastes-and while I'm not a fan of how they originally dress Eliza, the show seems nice. Eliza and Henry so far have a good relationship, and over time might actually become best friends. Maybe. I've never seen My Fair Lady, so I can't tell you if it's a more-or-less accurate re-telling of it. The episode has some side-characters who seem just as charming and like able as the main characters. While I don't think the show will last, if I'm perfectly honest (ABC put it at a 8:00pm time slot on Tuesdays, which, depending on time slots for the series, it'll have to battle NCIS and Pretty Little Liars) it seems like an enjoyable show. I'm not normally one for comedies, but this one has got some scenes that made me smile, especially toward the end of the episode.

Overview:
3/5

Note:
I was able to watch the pilot on ABC's website, as they released it pre-release. The series premieres September 30th, at 8:00pm on ABC.

  1. Sounds fun, and I love Karen, so I really want to at least give this a shot. I have not seen My Fair Lady either, but as long as it is not a musical like the original, I could probably enjoy it. Great review! By the way, ABC is just stupid. They first set AOS to fail against NCIS, and now they put this against it. They should not showing important stuff on Tuesday... Maybe Selfie will do well since it hits the comedy demographic rather than the serious crime drama one.

    1. It's not a musical-though there was one scene where *minor spoilers* where some characters were singing a song they like.
I didn't think about that, but maybe a comedy would do good at that time slot. Maybe during the winter hiatus they'll change the time for it, if it makes it to it anyway.
