50 years ago, today, one of the world's most finest science fiction shows premiered. The show in question was about a mysterious man who traveled the stars in a police box that was bigger on the inside. That show was Doctor Who.
It lasted until the 80s, when it was sadly cancelled, brought back only for a tv movie in the 90s, and then it disappeared from our screens once again. However, that was not the end of the Doctor's reign. Between the cancellation, novels of all sorts were published, fan movies were made and so much more. Finally, however, in 2005, the Doctor returned to our screens, still the same man but one who had gone through a terrible war....
Here we are in 2013, celebrating the Doctor's big 5-0. It's amazing to see that a show like it has lasted so long. The show in itself is brilliant in it's concept; a man who can change his face? If that concept had not been created, the show would not still be here today.
I will not lie, Doctor Who means a lot to me. I owe my name to it, not mentioning half my wardrobe as most of my tee shirts are that of Doctor Who. The show introduced me to my favorite painter-Vincent Van Gogh. I've watched the show all my life-I would watch re-runs of Classic Who with my Dad when I was little, and after a few years of not watching Who, I was watching New Who with my mom and Dad. I stopped watching briefly after Rose left, but returned in time for Blink-and what I owe most to Doctor Who is the hours spent watching it with my family. The nights when me and my family would sit around the table eating chips making theories on who River Song was are some of my favorite memories.
So on an end note, I say thanks to the people who created the show, and the man who started the legend of the Doctor-William Hartnell.
Happy Birthday, Doctor Who!

Happy 50th birthday to Doctor Who! That is great that you watch the show with your family. Ever since the 2005 series started, I have watched every episode with my father and brother, which is always a lot of fun. :) Can't wait for the Day of the Doctor! Only a few more hours!
