Was The Amazing Spider-Man 2 Spidey's last web sling? According to recent rumors, due to the fact that TASM2 did not do so well at the box over, and was highly criticized, Sony is considering rebooting the franchise yet again with a new lead actor...again. Meanwhile, Marvel is apparently trying to convince Sony to let them use Spider-Man in their films (particularly Captain America 3). While I try to keep my personal opinion off of news reports like this, I must speak up. I love Spider-Man, and I recognize this route we're going down, again. It's the same that happened after Spider-Man 3, the apparently much hated film of the entire franchise. Would I be excited to see Spidey in a film alongside Captain America and Iron Man? Oh yes! I'd be in heaven. But apparently the only way everyone sees it is getting rid of Andrew Garfield, and doing the origin story again. No. People complained when seeing the origin story a second time, how does Sony think they're going to take to seeing it a third time? In my opinion, it's insane to reboot a series for the third time in 12 years. My personal opinion is that they need to give it to Marvel, have Marvel continue where The Amazing Spider-Man 2 left off, and keep the franchise going, have Spidey pop up in The Avengers, something. One can only hope though. Hopefully these rumors will stay rumors.

Wow, this is not good. If they can keep Garfield and somehow add him to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, that would be great. However, there is still the problem of all that stuff that happen in the Spidey movies doesn't blend well the rest of the universe. I am not sure what to think anymore!

My thoughts exactly, James. I remember that we went down this road with Spidey 3 though, and that didn't end well. I would absolutely *love* to see Spidey in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but yeah, there'd probably be a few continuity issues (on another note, Stark Tower was supposed to show up in TASM, but couldn't because they ran out of time on production or something to put it into the NY Skyline). I just really hope they don't reboot the franchise-again. I don't know what to think either, I'm just hoping it works out for the best.

I'm not a huge spidey fan, so I don't have much of an opinion on this, though I am interested to see what happens, but I will say this: my brothers and I tried to figure out who could play the next spidey, and no one could top Andrew Garfield. He deserves at least as many films a Maguire got!
ReplyDeleteThat's what I thought too-I mean, we've had two brilliant actors playing Spidey in amazing films (if you pardon the pun). I don't think anyone could top both. And I agree-he does deserve as many films, especially when you consider how much a fan he is of Spidey.
