Synopsis:
The Doctor and Clara delve deep into the underworld in order to understand where the dead go-but as they soon discover, the dead are still kicking.
Review:
This episode is three things: 1. heart wrenching, 2. hilarious (I literally fell off my bed laughing at one point), and 3. mind blowing. The episode started off with what appeared to be something that could end up being timey-wimey, but instead ended up being rather heartbreaking for one of our main heroes. As the episode went on, the Doctor and Clara went on to go to the Underworld, or the Promised Land, and came across the woman who's been mysteriously collecting the dead all season: Missy.
The episode has plenty of laughs, ironic given it's location, plenty of jaw dropping moments, and a cliffhanger that left me speechless for several minutes. The plot twist itself is probably going to be divisive among fans, but it certainly wasn't a twist I was expecting, but I can't help but wonder if all is not what it seems....
The episode has a perfect mixture of heartbreak, laughs, creepiness and plot twists to make it an interesting start to what I'm sure to be one of the biggest Who finales we've had in a very long time-honestly, hasn't the season just flown by?
While the episode is certainly not perfect by any manners, it's still interesting and intriguing and I can't wait to see where they go next. Is it next Saturday yet?

Now this was a great start to the finale! The reveal about the secret behind the "afterlife" was great. Awesome review Tegan! The next episode cannot come soon enough!

I'll be careful not to post spoilers but, like you, I think there are further twists and reveals to come and we don't know the full story yet. This was one of Moffat's strongest and he seems rejuvenated since Capaldi came on board. This series is so much better than the Smith ones.
ReplyDeleteSince watching Agents of SHIELD, I don't really trust anything until the revelation is fully completed, there's definitely something else up Missy's sleeve. I'm personally loving this season, but I love all Doctor Who seasons, so.....
