Hello, I'm back today with the review for The Red Pyramid, the first installment in the Kane Chronicles trilogy, which is written by Rick Riordan, author of the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series as well as The Heroes Of Olympus series. Onto the review!
Synopsis:
Despite being like strangers to each other, Sadie and Carter Kane find themselves reunited and forced to work together after their father ends up summoning some of the most dangerous Egyptian gods. With only a few days left to save the world from almost certain doom, on the run from demons, gods and magicians, things are certainly getting complicated for the Kane family. But can Sadie and Carter save the world?
Review:
Admittedly, this took me awhile to finish. I actually started this book sometime last fall, I think, but I got distracted and just didn't feel like finishing it. I picked it up again earlier this year, but once more I got distracted. In fact, I nearly forgot I had it, until I started reading a book for school (perfectly innocent timing) and once I'd finished that book, I picked up this one once more. Boy was I wrong to ever think about not finishing the book. While it's not the stories I've grown accustomed too (see: Percy, Annabeth and co.), it's still one great ride filled with characters, honestly I don't think there was one character I didn't like-well, actually there was, but let's forget about him, shall we?
The book is humorous, as most Rick Riordan books are (at least the ones I've read, anyway), and features a great cast of characters. The sibling banter between Sadie and Carter is hilarious, even more so during some scenes than others. The book had some similarities to The Lightning Thief-or at least, that's what I thought-but it's still an awesome book, and had some great twists that you just didn't really see coming. This book literally has it all; humor, heartbreak, action, adventure, you name it. It gets even better toward the end as well. I've already started on the next book.
Overview:
3.5/5
