Agents of SHIELD: The Only Light in the Darkness Review

Spoilers. I'm assuming that the people reading this will have seen 'Captain America: The Winter Soldier' and the Agents of SHIELD episodes, 'Turn, Turn, Turn' onwards. Spoilers will be casually mentioned.
Firstly, how about that episode, huh? Pretty great, if I do say so myself. Anyway, this episode, like so many before it, was spectacular. Not 'Turn, Turn, Turn' great, but up there with 'FZZT' good. Or maybe somewhere in the middle.
The episode introduces us to Audrey Nathan, or more affectionally known as 'The Cellist' by fans and by characters in film, aka Coulson's ex-girlfriend, who currently believes he's dead. But, Audrey's in danger because some super-powered guy-Deathstroke? Was that his name?-is going after her. So where does that leave us? Some of the usual AOS hilarity, and it's recent 'must scream at TV'ness. Here we go!

Synopsis:
The agents find out that amongst the people who escaped the Fridge, Marcus Daniels has escaped too, and is now going after Audrey Nathan, a woman who was targeted before, and was once protected by SHIELD. But can they do it again?

Review:
Great episode, really. Had me talking to the screen again, so that's always a plus. (What? Am I the only one who makes commentary? No? Okay.) The episode didn't have very many one-liners, but did have a lot of funny moments. A lot of moments for people who are into the whole 'ship' thing (to be honest, the only relationships I like on the show is Fitzsimmons, and Coulson and the Cellist. Don't ask me why I'm so invested in their relationship since how we only saw last night-this morning for me), but there were a lot of shocking moments in there too.
Firstly, *Spoilers, May left! She just got up and left. I was so shocked at that. I literally went, 'No! Don't go! They need you!' *End Spoilers*. We also learned some more about the Agents through the lie detector test. We also got a hilarious line from Simmons about the whole 'You're stranded on a deserted island, and there's a box, what's inside', when her answer was 'the TARDIS'. I can't blame her, really. That'd be my answer. I mean, come on, it's got a library, showers, bathrooms, kitchens, a swimming pool, and more. What else would you need (besides a guy with two hearts and an obsession with hats)? We got some nice moments with Fitz too (who's becoming my favorite character), especially when Audrey said that the agent who protected her the last time was 'Phil'. I loved how shocked Fitz was, then just rolled with it.
Through the whole episode I was just going, 'Coulson, tell her you're alive, just tell her! Come on!'. But, he didn't. Man...
But, finally, someone figured out Ward's Hydra! Thank you! I'm positive that Skye left them a message on that poster, because why else would they zoom into it?? And the end scene, I was like 'Who are you talking about' and then when May said 'Maria', I got giddy with excitement. And speaking of excitement...
Can we talk about how flipping amazing next week looks? I can't wait a whole week people! eep!

  1. DOCTOR WHO REFERENCE AND SIMMONS LIKES DOCTOR WHO! I LOVE HER CHARACTER EVEN MORE NOW!

    *Spoilers*

.....Sorry about that outburst, I literally freakout when she said that! Love the reference!

Anyway, my only problem with the episode is that Coulson did not tell Audrey that he is alive. I guess it kind of makes sense since he rather her think that he is dead than leave her waiting in case Coulson doesn't make it after the fall of SHIELD.

Also, you are not alone in being invested in the Coulson/Audrey relationship. I have been theorizing about it for a long time, and having Amy Acker play the character certainly made it satisfying. However, I do wish Coulson told her that he is alive! We better see Audrey again next season.

Good catch with a message probably being on the poster. I did not even notice that.

I can't believe Ward killed Patton's character. I really liked him and wished he was able to stick around longer. However, Ward killing him makes me certain that there is no turning back for Ward, and I like that the series is going that dark. Granted, I like seeing a show's dark side.

Also, Blackout is the comic book name of the villain in the episode.

    Great review as always Tegan!

    1. Hah, yeah I know. I laughed at that because I was expecting her to say Fitz, but when she said it I just laughed. I knew I liked those two for a reason: Harry Potter references, Sherlock Holmes references, and Doctor Who references.
It's perfectly understandable. I had one of those moments when they referenced it on *Minor Spoilers* Castle.
I know! I kept saying throughout the episode: 'Just tell her Coulson, Just Tell Her Coulson, TELL HER COULSON!', and when he didn't, I just like, 'Really? Really? Come on Coulson!'. I think it's more sad than any other possibility that I came up with...I really wanted a Coulson/Cellist reunion. True...I didn't quite think of that. Maybe it is a good thing he didn't tell her, especially in light of recent events.
Well, Eric (I can't remember his last name, sorry) mentioned the poster looking things in last week's episode, so I thought maybe the poster Skye saw was a computer screen too. Knowing her she probably hacked it.
I know! You'd expect him to be on there a little longer, but Ward *cough, traitor, co ugh* killed him too! *Minor Spoilers From the Promo For Next Week* However with that dude from last week's episode (The military dude-I'm bad at names. And I just woke up, so...) coming up there, he could find Eric's body and try to frame it on the team.
Okay. I knew I didn't have the name right....
      Thanks!
